Italo-Greek Relations. Implications of Present State Of: Report by J.I.C.

1 Jul 1940

4. Greece is already under great pressure from Germany to abrogate her War Trade Agreement with Britain. This agreement has at present the effect of restricting Greek exports, particularly of olive oil, chrome and sundry other products, to Germany. 5. Occupation of Salonika by Italy would close our trade route to and from Yugoslavia. We have large dumps of important minerals, such as chrome and copper, at Salonika awaiting shipment. Our metals protocol with Yugoslavia prevents Germany obtaining the full surplus so long as we are able to take supplies from Salonika.
