2. DISPOSAL OF THE WALTER TEAM OF GERMAN SCIENTISTS TOP SECRET (Previous Reference: J.I.C. (49) 48th Meeting, Minute 2) REAR ADMIRAL LONGLEY COOK referred to the Committee's previous discussion on the disposal of the Walter Team of German scientists and said that he had now been asked by the First Sea Lord to inform the Committee of the latest position and to obtain their views. It was clear that German scientists and technicians who return to Germany having had access to United Kingdom information of a defence nature were liable to contacts by the Russians, and a recent report+ from the Joint Intelligence Committee, Germany, had drawn attention to this problem and had set out several instances in which it was known that such scientists and technicians had been approached by the Russians.
