A N N E X I. JOINT INTELLIGENCE CENTRE IN THE MIDLLE EAST. PRESENT POSITION. 1. A Paper on the establishment of a Combined Intelligence Centre in the Middle East (C.I.D. Paper No. 1548-B, attached as Annex II) was laid before the Committee of Imperial Defence at their 356th Meeting on the 11th May, 1939. 2. It will be seen that in this Paper the establishment of a comprehensive Combined Bureau, containing political as well as Service representatives, was considered impracticable for the reasons given in paragraph 8 of the Paper, and it was proposed to establish immediately a purely Service Intelligence Centre to deal with Naval, Military and Air Intelligence.
