A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on Southern Europe: that German High Command bans German troops from entering the Vatican City, from March 11; of a new Hitler order: that Hitler orders the publishing of a national military propaganda newspaper to counteract Allied propaganda, on March 10; on Southern Europe: that 50 German Air Force (GAF) fighters and 60 JU-52s are to deploy to the Belgrade area by March 12; that German shipping in the Dalmatian area is to come to a complete standstill unless immediate, effective air and sea defence is provided, on March 5; a summary of German naval movements in the Aegean Sea and visits to Yugoslav ports, for March 10/11; that the German Army requests more naval protection, otherwise the supply of the Dalmatian Islands would have to be done by air, on March 11; and of an urgent demand to upgrade the coastal defence batteries in Istria and supply more German personnel to work with the Italians, on March 7; and on the Russian Front: that the Germans retreat from Uman, on March 9, destroying equipment which could not be brought out because of the poor state of the roads.
