This file includes the following reports on Southern Europe: of a suspected Allied paratroop landing south of Naples, on July 22; on the Axis military chain of command in Sicily, on July 21; and that the Germans claim sinkings of merchant tonnage on the east coast of Sicily, on July 22; on South-east Europe: of a successful Allied attack on Preveza, in western Greece, on July 22; a German secret service report on Kesselring's view that Sicily would develop like Tunis and on the lack of morale in Italy, on July 23; Naval Headlines; and that the Japanese ambassador in Berlin is anxious to visit Hitler, on July 19.
