A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports: an Italian intelligence report on sightings of Allied activity in north-east Sicily, on August 3; on Southern Europe: a German naval situation report for August 3, describing heavy Allied losses in the northern and central sectors of Sicily, and that an Axis withdrawal is intended; and that two Italian cruisers are to leave Taranto on August 3 for mine-laying operations on August 4; on South-east Europe: a German Air Force (GAF) Command in the South-east situation report including that production has been stopped in two oil refineries in the Ploesti area, on August 2; GAF Command South-east reports 39 Allied aircraft were shot down in the Ploesti raid, on August 3; that the occupation and development of Albanian airfields are proceeding according to plan, on August 3; and that a German parachute school in Yugoslavia was unable to carry out its training programme, on August 3.
