Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on South Europe: of German Air Force (GAF) parties being ordered to develop airfields in the final defence line, in the Po plain, on September 28; and of the German withdrawal being hampered by muddy roads, on September 28; on Germany: that Hitler orders that Italian internees are to replace German specialists in the war industry who are exempted from military service, on September 25; on South-east Europe: the German Navy reports measures taken against Italian forces on Corfu and other Greek islands, on September 27; and of the Germans clearing Cephalonia of Italian forces, on September 22; Naval Headlines; from the Portuguese ambassador to the Vatican, that the Germans are to set up an Italian republican government in northern Italy, on September 26; from the Turkish ambassador in Bucharest, that the Germans are satisfied with the resuscitation of the Fascist Party and are not to set up a government, on September 24; and from the Japanese minister in Madrid, relating Spanish criticism of the German policy towards Italy, on September 24.
