This file includes the following reports: of the German army reaching the outer defences of Leningrad from the south, south east and east on September 13; a report that German armoured forces advancing from the north and south had almost encircled Kiev on September 14; a situation report from the evening of September 14 that the 11th Army was preparing for a planned attack on Perekop; a morning report from the 1st Panzer Group on September 9 that they were meeting stubborn Soviet resistance, and that Soviet civilians were attacking tanks with petrol bombs; arrangements for gliders to be ferried from Greece to Derna to be used to transport supplies from Tripoli to Benghazi; the arrival of ME109 aircraft as replacements at Gazala, Africa, on September 14; the transfer of FW200 aircraft formerly in the Mediterranean area to Bordeaux; reports that senior German police officers in newly occupied Soviet sectors have been given orders from Himmler that the closest cooperation possible is to be achieved with the inhabitants and a new mine-clearing unit; a report from the Italian ambassador in Rio de Janeiro reporting an alleged proposal by America that Brazil cooperate in occupying the Azores and Cape Verde Islands; a report from the Turkish ambassador in Buenos Aires of a conversation with the Japanese ambassador about U.S.-Japanese negotiations for peace in the Pacific; and a report from the U.S. minister in Budapest that the Germans were pressing Hungary to provide workers for industry in Germany. This file also contains a Naval Headlines report giving details of the ships due to arrive in Benghazi; the arrival of an Italian convoy in Tripoli on September 13; and that a fast convoy was soon expected to be leaving Italy for Tripoli.
