This file includes the following reports on North Africa: that German Air Force (GAF) fighters were stretched to the limit escorting bombers; and the Italians were flying fighter patrols over the German Africa Corps and the 90th Light Division as protection against RAF attacks, on July 4; of a complaint by Kesselring that promised motor transport had been withdrawn by the Panzer Army, and pointing out the effect on the GAF's support, on July 4; of an urgent request from the GAF for reinforcements from Crete on July 4; Naval Headlines, covering operations against convoy PQ17 which has been taken as the main target, with QP13 to be ignored, on July 2; and on the Italian Admiralty's intention to use a cruiser force in the eastern Mediterranean as an escort to troop transports; a query from the Prime Minister (PM); and a reply from the First Sea Lord (ISL).
