This file includes the following reports on North Africa: that Italian Divisions were ordered to move overnight on 24/25 August by the Panzer Army; and of a schedule for shipborne supplies of fuel and ammunition to Africa, for August 23-September 4; on the Russian Front: a report for August 25; of German reversals; that the Italian 8th Army and Romanian forces are fighting alongside the Germans; and of German armoured spearheads near Stalingrad; Naval Headlines; and messages from the Japanese ambassador in Rome, on the Axis offensive in Africa; that Mussolini is unlikely to re-visit Africa in the near future; and that the Italians hope for Japanese cooperation in the western Indian Ocean; from the Iranian consul in Baku, that the hospitals are full of wounded and civilians are being evacuated from Baku, oil pipelines have been closed and oil wells are being sealed with cement, with the Russians having decided to destroy all the oil facilities in Baku on the expected approach of the German forces, on August 23; and from the Turkish minister in Chungking, a report of August 24, that the Allies have decided to attack the French coast under the command of General Auchinleck, while a recent test raid proved very difficult with heavy casualties incurred.
