Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports: on the Tula sector, that the 43rd Corps is withdrawing and the 2nd Panzer Army is short of fuel, on November 14; a report for November 14 that the 12th and 13th Army Corps are under attack, with Soviet forces bringing up reinforcements; that frost is causing severe damage to German motor transport in the central sector of the Russian Front; an Eastern Front evening report for November 15: that the 41st Army Corps is suffering heavy losses on the Kalinin Front, indications of the presence of the RAF in the Moscow region and German loss of air superiority over Kalinin; on the installation of Freya equipment in Crete; on Serbia: of clashes between Cetniks and Communists; that were Communists arrested in Belgrade; of the 342nd Infantry Division carrying out mopping up operations south west of Valjevo; of the 717th Infantry Division attacking south west of Kraljevo; and of clashes between Croatian troops and insurgents north of Sarajevo; of a German Air Force (GAF) night fighter unit arriving in Sicily on November 14; that fifty motor transport drivers are needed urgently by GAF supply authorities in Italy, on November 15; that German Army coastal batteries are to be transported to Africa aboard a warship by November 20; that Supreme Command Armed Forces prisoners were either not suitable or too weak for Africa and that 2000 coloured French prisoners would be sent for the Panzer Group; of an escape by five British soldiers from Benghazi on November 13; of the arrival in Africa of German special assault troops on November 13-14; that anti-tank guns were to be flown from Germany to Derna on November 13-14; of an RAF raid on Derna, and the interpretation of photographic reconnaissance on British Army positions, on November 15; that ladders, tank bridges and rubber rafts were being sent from Benghazi to Derna, on November 13; that unspecified units of the 10th Air Corps are to be moved following a conference with German Army authorities, on November 16; that dive bomber units are to move from Crete to be used in North Africa, on November 17; that heavy fighter reinforcements are to be sent from Crete to Africa on November 16; and that German fighter aircraft were escorting transport planes between Crete and Derna on November 13.
