A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following BONIFACE reports on the Russian Front: a report from the Kaluga area that the 43rd Army Corps, under attack with armour support, had withdrawn from Vorozinsk and evacuated the Kaluga bridgehead, and the 12th and 57th Army Corps had ceded ground to Soviet forces, on December 29; that Soviet pressure was continuing against the 7th and 9th Army Corps and the 46th Panzer Corps; that the 5th Army Corps was engaged with strong Soviet forces, with harassing artillery and mortar fire along the whole of the 3rd Panzer Group front on December 28; that the 41st Army Corps was under constant attack, its numbers being considerably reduced, its troops nearing exhaustion from not having been relieved since December 16 and that the 6th Panzer Division should return; a report of Soviet paratroops in action south-west of Moscow on December 29; a report that the 48th Panzer Corps was under strong Soviet attack, and increased pressure was expected on Kursk on December 28; and intelligence that Bulgarian troops had been sent for operations in Yugoslavia, on December 29. The file also includes the following BONIFACE reports from North Africa: that the 10th Air Corps was maintaining supply air drops on Sollum at a rate of 10 tons per day despite the shortage of aircraft; and an urgent request for bombs for Stuka aircraft in Arae Philaenorum from December 30.
