A file of correspondence and reports concerning relations between East Germany and Burma. The correspondence describes a visit to Rangoon by an East German delegation led by the deputy chairman of the East German Council of Ministers, Margarete Witkowski. Talks were held on East German entry into the United Nations; the renewal of a Burmese-East German trade agreement; and consultations on a credit agreement. The file also includes a U.S. assessment of East German activities in Burma, discussing an East German newspaper advert celebrating the achievements of East German nationals in Burma. The advert covered an agreement on economic and technical cooperation; Burmese rice exports; the visit of Burmese shipping experts to East Germany; assistance with military training; donations from the East German Red Cross; and student exchanges.
