A file of correspondence and press material concerning visits by British nationals to Berlin. The documents discuss how the East German government will let British nationals visit East Berlin for one day without requiring a visa; and how British nationals staying in East Berlin overnight do require a visa, which costs fifteen West German Deutschmarks. The documents also cover the Soviet government's organisation of sight-seeing bus tours in West Berlin; the organisation of a visit to Berlin by Hugh Carleton Greene, the Director-General of the B.B.C.; Carleton Greene's inquiry to the Foreign Office regarding whether he should look to meet with Walter Ulbricht, the East German leader, during his time in Berlin; and the Foreign Office's rejection of this, as the meeting would have "obvious possibilities of embarrassment". The documents also include several articles from the British press covering a visit to East Berlin by Graham Greene, a notable British novelist.
