A file of correspondence, press articles, and legal material concerning the withdrawal of Soviet troops from East Germany. The documents discuss an announcement by the East German government that 41,000 Soviet troops will shortly be returning to the Soviet Union; how 250,000 Soviet troops will remain in East Germany after this withdrawal; and the appointment of Nikolai Zakharov as the new commander of the Soviet troops in East Berlin. The documents also cover several articles in the British press reporting on the Soviet withdrawals; and a series of parades held in East Germany to commemorate the withdrawal of Soviet troops, which the British military government in West Berlin believe involved "a small number of very low-quality troops and some largely obsolescent equipment". Other documents include a copy of an agreement between the East German and Soviet governments regarding the administration of justice upon Soviet troops in East Germany.
