A file of correspondence concerning cultural relations between Britain and Hungary. The documents discuss the production of a play about the Hungarian Revolution of 1956 by Robert Ardrey, an American playwright, entitled The Murderers; and the view of the Foreign Office that whilst there is nothing in the play that justifies censorship, it would be appropriate to change the title in order to make it easier to deal with any protest that might be made against it by the Hungarian government. The documents also cover the renaming of Ardrey's play to Shadow of Heroes; the first performance of the play at the Piccadilly Theatre in London; and a protest lodged against the play by the Hungarian government. Other documents comment on the attendance of a British delegation at a musicological conference in Budapest.
