A file of correspondence concerning Soviet studies in Britain. The documents discuss the workings of the International Committee of Slavists, which contains "some very reputable people in the field of Slavonic studies"; the view of the Foreign Office that an upcoming conference held by the International Committee of Slavists will be "a genuine meeting of scholars, without political implications"; and that, because of this, the Foreign Office "do not intend to discourage United Kingdom representatives from attending the conference". The documents also cover the organisation of a conference in London on "Operations Research" by the American Operations Research Society, which intends to invite delegates from several Eastern-bloc countries; and a draft letter to be sent to the Soviet Academy of Sciences requesting five scientists and economists from the Soviet Union to attend the conference. Other documents comment on the organisation of a meeting between several British ambassadors to Eastern-bloc countries.
