Berlin: Extension to West Berlin of International Agreements Signed by Federal Republic of Germany

1 Jan 1978

A file containing documents concerning the application of international treaties and conventions to West Berlin. Subjects covered in the file include incomplete and misleading Soviet references to the 1971 Quadripartite Agreement; the view that the East German government was not a party to the Quadripartite Agreement and hence unable to comment on its provisions; and the "Berlin clause" in the nuclear safeguards agreement between the International Atomic Energy Agency, West Germany, and Brazil. Other subjects covered in the file include a Soviet protest relating to the convention on inland navigation; the suspension of West German aid to Mozambique over objections to a reference to Berlin; East German accession to the Convention on Conduct of Fishing Operations in the North Atlantic; and a Berlin-related problem with the authorisation of identity cards used at the European Patent Office.
