Other subjects discussed in the file include a period of strained relations between China and the United States; reports of a political crisis in the Chinese leadership; Chinese views on Western peace movements; Chinese condemnation of Soviet aggression in Afghanistan and Cambodia; and the start of talks between the Chinese and Japanese governments, which were denounced in the Soviet media.
