Soviet Union: Embassy Building Sites in London and Moscow

A file of correspondence and reports concerning the site of Soviet and British diplomatic missions in London and Moscow. The documents cover the current negotiations with Soviet authorities on the reciprocal provision of embassy sites; attempts to persuade Soviet authorities to accept a site in Warwick Road in London for staff accommodation and amenities; and the Soviet offer of a site in Spasopeskovskaya Square in Moscow for a new British embassy building. Other documents in the file cover a proposed bill that would allow the Foreign Secretary jurisdiction over the establishment of diplomatic premises in London; and a suggestion that the City of Westminster could be asked to refuse the siting of diplomatic premises within certain districts. The file also includes a U.S. bill on foreign missions, designed to address the current imbalance of treatment afforded to diplomatic missions in the U.S. with that received by the U.S. in certain countries.
