Czechoslovakia: Restitution of Czechoslovak Gold and UK Claims against Czechoslovakia

The documents cover the ongoing negotiations for a financial settlement between the U.K. and Czechoslovakia for claims concerning intergovernmental debt, private property, commercial and private debt, and blocked bank balances; and Czechoslovak demands for the return of gold held by the Tripartite Commission, the transfer of which has been refused until the financial claims of the U.K. and U.S. have been met. Other documents in the file cover the Czechoslovak refusal to acknowledge the parts of the intergovernmental debt that relate to the resettlement of Sudetenland refugees and upkeep costs for Czechoslovak forces in Britain during the Second World War. The file also covers U.S. demands that Britain finalise its negotiations with Czechoslovakia; and fears that the U.S. Congress will seek to expropriate the Czechoslovak gold to meet its own financial claims.
