Baltic States: Policy towards the Former Baltic States

A file of correspondence and reports concerning British policy towards the Baltic states. The documents cover enquiries about current British policy towards the recognition of the Baltic states; the continuation of the British policy to recognise the incorporation of the Baltic states into the Soviet Union only as de facto and not de jure; and the policies adopted by the Norwegian and West German governments towards the Baltic states. Other documents in the file cover enquiries by diplomats and British government representatives regarding visits to and attendance at meetings in the Baltic states; and letters from members of the British public on the status of the Baltic states, and British financial claims relating to the incorporation of the Baltic states into the Soviet Union. The file also covers enquiries with regard to the status of Latvian property in West Berlin; the issuing of passports by the former Baltic legations in London; and changes within the Estonian government.
