The file includes a discussion of Soviet interests in the Suez Canal; a report on an official visit to Bulgaria by Andrei Gromyko, the foreign minister of the Soviet Union; notes on a speech given by Aleksei Kosygin, the president of the Soviet Council of Ministers, concerning Soviet policy in Vietnam and Korea; a copy of a steering brief for the British Foreign Secretary in preparation for an official visit to Moscow; and comments on a series of foreign affairs lectures given in Moscow by Soviet journalists from the Novosti Press Agency and Pravda. The file also includes the text of a speech by Leonid Brezhnev, the leader of the Soviet Union, during the 1968 Soviet-Hungarian Friendship Meeting; and a letter from the British embassy in Moscow reporting on developments in Soviet foreign policy after the invasion of Czechoslovakia.
