MINISTRY OF SUPPLY - HOME TIMBER PRODUCTION DEPARTRMENT. 1942 TIMBER CENSUS. 1. According to the Census just completed the total Standing Timber (including Park and Hedgerow) in Great Britain at the 1st of March, 1942, was estimated as :- SOFTWOOD 714 million Cubic Ft. HARSWOOD 1,346 million Cubic Ft. TOTAL 2,060 million Cubic Ft. Timber sterilised by Service Departments for Tank Parks, Ammunition Dumps etc., Shelter Belts and other essential agricultural timber; Timber in Defence and Restricted Areas; Timber of historic interest or special amenity value; and timber extremely difficult of access and extraction is included in the above figures but is not available for Production.
