COAL. Report by Secretary for Mines for January, 1942.

-2- by month ago electricity undertakings averaged 514,000 tons in January Compared with 448,000 in the previous month and 444,000 tons a year ago. Consumption by gas works was also over the half million mark at 502,000 tons compared with 427,000 the previous month and 414,000 tons a year ago. Railways and engineering and allied trades showed a substantial increase over the previous year. Against this is to be set a slight fall in the consumption of coal by the iron and stee industry and also by the miscellaneous industries not covered above.
