DEFINITIONS 1. (a) Gross Battle Casualties: Killed in action, captured, missing, died of wounds, and wounded. (b) Permanent Battle Casualties: Killed in action, captured, missing, died of wounds and wounded who have been or will be invalided out of the army. Those who die or who are sick in hospital independent of enemy action. (c) Gross Medical Casualties: (U.S. "Non-Battle" Casualties) Those who die or who are invalided out of the service for reasons of health. (d) Permanent Medical Casualties: (e) Total Permanent Casualties: The sum of sub-paras.
