Penicillin Plants

1 Jan 1948

COLONEL GLEADELL PENICILLIN PLANTS I have been informed by the Ministry of Health that in 1946 U.N.N.R.A. endeavoured to obtain from the United States penicillin plants for Poland, Czechoslovakia, the Ukraine and Italy. The U.S. Treasury refused this application on the grounds that U.N.N.R.A. funds should be used for re-habilitation only and not for increasing the industrial potential of this country. 2. U.N.N.R.A. then approached Canada who placed orders for the four plants with the Connaught Laboratories at Toronto.
