23 Jun 1939

A file of reports, correspondence, and meeting minutes relating to the organisation of British intelligence during and immediately after the Second World War. The earlier items in the file focus on the duties and responsibilities of the Joint Intelligence Sub-Committee (JIC), including the committee's charter; liaison with government departments and British intelligence committees abroad; a brief history of the JIC since 1936; and the structure of British intelligence distribution. Later items concern British intelligence more generally, including post-war intelligence requirements; plans for post-war defence organisation; the need for better economic intelligence during and after the war; responsibility for the production of reports; the centralisation of British intelligence; and the exchange of information with American intelligence services.
