A file containing documents concerning an official visit to Ethiopia by Antonín Novotný, the Czechoslovak president. Speeches during the event had noted Czechoslovakia's support for Ethiopia during the Second World War; its assistance in developing Ethiopia's economic plans; and the need for greater progress to be made towards colonial independence. The despatch from the British embassy in Addis Ababa includes the communiqué issued at the end of the visit, which noted that the two countries' leaders had agreed that the conduct of international relations should be based on "respect of sovereignty, territorial integrity, non-interference in the domestic affairs of states... and on peaceful coexistence". The leaders had agreed that the People's Republic of China should be admitted to the United Nations; that there was a need to continue negotiations on general and complete disarmament; and that American aggression in Vietnam threatened world peace.
