A file of correspondence, reports, and press material concerning the evolution of the Sino-Soviet split. The documents include several monthly reports produced by the Foreign Office charting developments in the Sino-Soviet split between December 1964 and March 1965. These reports cover the Soviet government's condemnation of the first Chinese nuclear test; Indonesia's withdrawal from the United Nations at China's prompting; the state of Chinese-Soviet economic relations; and the Chinese and Soviet reactions to the outbreak of the Vietnam War. The documents also cover the publication of a series of articles in the Soviet and Chinese presses respectively condemning the other state for its political disloyalty; attempts by the two nations to influence the international communist movement; and a visit to China by Aleksei Kosygin, the Soviet premier, to meet with Mao Zedong, the Chinese leader. Other documents in the file cover the anniversary of the signature of the Sino-Soviet Treaty of Friendship.
