Southern (R): Yugoslavia (RY). Political Relations between Yugoslavia and Ethiopia.

1959

A file of correspondence, reports, and press material concerning a visit to Ethiopia by Josip Broz Tito, the Yugoslav leader. The documents discuss an announcement that Tito's visit will be "unofficial", and that "neither the Emperor nor the Ethiopian government will be giving any official entertainment in his honour". The documents also contain a report produced by the British embassy in Addis Ababa, covering meetings between Tito and Halie Selassie, the Ethiopian Emperor; the "extensive coverage" of the visit in the Ethiopian press; and how this visit has been deemed to be unofficial to avoid "starting a new series of State Visits". Other documents include a copy of a joint communiqué published by the Yugoslav and Ethiopian governments published in Borba at the conclusion of Tito's visit; and a note from the British embassy in Belgrade covering a return visit by Selassie to Yugoslavia.
