Western (W): General (W). Political Relations: GDR and Yugoslavia

1958

A file of correspondence concerning relations between Yugoslavia and East Germany. Subjects covered in the file include East German press reaction to the programme of the Seventh Congress of the Yugoslav communist party, arguing that its policies are incompatible with the concept of Marxist-Leninism and that revisionism will impede the progress of socialism in Yugoslavia. Further correspondence concerns a speech delivered on the forty-first anniversary of the October Revolution by the East German prime minister, Otto Grotewohl, criticising the political ideologies espoused by the Yugoslav government, which led to a note of protest. The file also includes details of a meeting of the Council of Mutual Economic Aid's Commission for Cooperation in the Chemical Industry which took place in East Berlin, to which a Yugoslav observer was invited.
