Northern (N): Poland (NP). Administration of Justice

1958

A file of correspondence and press material concerning legal developments in Poland. The documents discuss the introduction of a new law by the Polish government increasing the minimum penalties for the "theft, embezzlement, or destruction of 'social property'"; and the view of a Polish lawyer that this law contains "extremely severe regulations which are shocking to a lawyer used to traditional legal sentences". The documents also cover the intention of the Polish government to improve the "professional and moral standards" of those working for the Polish Prosecutor General. Other documents include an article published in Trybuna Ludu covering the trial of a former Gestapo officer in Kraków.
