A file of correspondence concerning Jews in Romania. The documents discuss the nature of Jewish re-immigration into Romania from Israel, with a large number having recently returned on grounds of "discontent"; and the trials of several Jewish leaders in Romania, charged with supporting Zionism and "holding underground meetings". The documents also cover a meeting of the Board of Deputies of British Jews to discuss the recent trials in Romania; a series of questions asked in the British Parliament about the trials; and a Romanian note to Israel protesting their "campaign of calumnies". Other documents comment on a request to have the B.B.C. broadcast a report on several Israeli Jews who are staging hunger strikes in solidarity with their counterparts in Romania; and a complaint that whilst the B.B.C. European Service has extensively reported on the plight of Jews in Romania, there has been little coverage of this in Britain itself.
