Other documents in the file cover concerns over the country's falling birth rate; measures to address rural depopulation; the country's youth movements; moves to study the "corrupting influence" of discotheques in Bulgaria; and measures to strengthen socialist democracy in the country by extending the use of local referendums. The file also includes a despatch examining the characteristics and culture of Bulgarians; a report on a tour of the country's north-east undertaken by the British ambassador, Giles Bullard; and an assessment of Bulgarian cultural policy.
